Birthday meal for Mum last night. I did have good intentions and actually apart from the wine (it's rude not to toast the birthday girl) and the cake (a very small slice, besides I'm sure it's unlucky not to have a bit of birthday cake), I felt fairly in control.

1000

I don't know who you are, but hello all the people who have stopped by.

I'm thinking that the majority of you are hitting "random blog" at the top of the page or stumbling across this little corner of the internet by accident because I rarely promote this blog. I started it as a bit of self-policing and perhaps a bit of an exercise in honesty but that doesn't mean I want to shove my fatitude down people's throats all the time.

That said, my page visit counter has topped 1000 today in spite of my relative low profile. If you'd like to celebrate this milestone with me I would love to see your comments. I may have bored you to death with food diaries and whinging but I'll take it on the chin with a grin.

Food Diary

Breakfast - 20 Almonds (B), 2 clementines, Aldi greek yoghurt
Lunch - Curry loaf slice, banana, squares bar - 5.5 syns
Dinner - Chinese style zoodles with prawns
Snacks/Other -14 almonds - 3.5 syns
Total syns - 9

So my broadband is sort of working again, although it's slower than mid-90s dial up, and it definitely feels easier doing the SW plan when I am reporting it to the great anonymous judge that is the internet. Besides, my SW leader Jo is back from holiday next week so I have a feeling that will make things easier too.

There is a part of me that wonders whether it's possible to loose 3lb by Tuesday. I mean, technically I know that it's possible, but I'll have to move my arse to make it happen. But that doesn't come naturally, except for the wobbling, of course.

Weigh in - 16st 11lbs

A bit late posting, however I do seem to have internet back for the moment at least.

A pound and a half on, which, considering the week I had, is not surprising. I ate a lot of convenience food and ice cream. The very warm weather is not a friend to my diet or my pocket. Time to pull it back.

A sign?

Still no broadband! I plan to set aside a hour to go head to head with talktalk tonight. It literally takes that long to get anywhere. Grrr...

Anyway, hopefully will be back able to post daily soon, but I just remembered, and I thought it was worth noting for future inspiration... I dreamt I was putting on my sports bra last night. Weird, but maybe its a sign. Last time I tried it on it was too tight. If it fits then I've got less of an excuse not to do bouncy type things: skipping, jogging, zumba... Especially since my foot is loads better.

If it's not on the internet, it doesn't exist

Well, not quite. But because of my ongoing broadband issues I haven't been posting my food diaries and my week so far has not exactly been a shining example of SW meal planning. While I haven't quite reached that anarchic state of eating everything I can see, I certainly haven't been strict with myself or been good at recording everything.

On Wednesday, we had a great day out at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, complete with picnic. That meant sandwiches, crisps and biscuits. Following that I've been too hot and disorganised to do more than open the fridge/cupboard and just pick out something. Describing my food this week as being in the form of meals would be dishonest. Lunch today was basically some chicken pieces. And a yoghurt. I feel a bit sick now but that's my fault.

It may be the heat that's making me feel so apathetic to structure when it comes to food. It may even be a psychological self-sabotaging instinct born of the fact I am 1.5lbs away from loosing a stone. It may even be that I have PMS and that slice of chocolate cake today was for the good of mankind.

Meal plan w/c 9-7-14, -2.5lbs

Weigh in - 16st 9.5lbs

2.5lbs off. Definitely please with that. I have been good this week. Eggy Monday which does seem to make a difference. Doing a little happy dance!

Monday 14 July 2014

Dinner - poached egg with toast (B) and spinach
Snacks/Other - pineapple, a tiny cube of brownie about an inch square - ? syns

Really liked the egg cups so couldn't resist them for breakfast. Then I decided to rejig the poached egg today since I was in danger of having eggs for breakfast, lunch and tea. Not sure my stomach could cope!

I had dinner at work but by about 10pm I was hungry so I made little eggy muffin pie things. They turned out really well so I will post the recipe when I can next get on my laptop.

Breakfasts should be more inspiring than nuts and cheese

My posts have been very short lately. This is because my internet at home is playing up and I can only get online on my phone, which is not my preferred way to blog.

Anyway, I just thought I'd take the opportunity for a kind of weekly overview since I'm at a loose end and I can get online.

It's been going okay. I've stuck to my syns. I've had loads of fruit and veg. I've resisted the chocolate. That said, my breakfasts are looking a bit boring. This is mostly because I'm boring first thing in the morning. I hate even speaking before 10am, let alone doing anything more creative than counting to 20. The other thing is that I don't really have milk, so by the time I decide I'll have a Weetabix and reach for the skimmed milk it's already a week out of date (and not in a "chance it" kind of way either).

When I was doing SW before, I often had eggs for breakfast. But that was when I had a dishwasher. Another thing I hate - washing up.

I saw this picture on tumblr the other day and I though, oh I could do that...

...minus the smoked salmon of course (you may remember my salmon fest a few weeks ago). But I still haven't got round to it. The irony is that I do have most of the ingredients. I have the baby spinach, the eggs and the bread for toast. I am so rubbish!

Right! This is the plan for tomorrow. Poached eggs and spinach.

Food Diary

Breakfast - Hifi bar (B), 2 babybels (A), banana.
Lunch - left over pasta, squares bar - 5.5 syns
Dinner - Vietnamese rolls (sort of) - 5 syns, muller light, glass of wine - 4 syns.

Tried to make the rolls from a kit. Nice flavours but what a mess.

Wednesday 9 July 2014

Food Diary

Breakfast - hifi bar (B),  yoghurt, banana
Lunch - Mars bar - 11.5 syns, 2 babybels (A)
Dinner - onion and parsley pasta with courgette and mushrooms
Snacks/Other - half a glass of wine - 3 syns
Total syns - 14.5

Ate way too much yesterday as we had a big dinner to celebrate my brother's new job. Definitely overdid it. Mars bar not great but within syns.  The half glass of wine is left over from yesterday. I need to free up space in my fridge.

Hey, doesn't my hair look cool today?

I call it the "falling over in the park wave". I'd love it if my hair looked like this every day but I couldn't style it like this on purpose if I tried.

Tuesday 8 July 2014

A matter of perspective

Okay, so today I had another go at the selfie thing and the results are a lot less horrifying, despite my unwashed hair and my massive phone covering up my face. I think I look better for two reasons. One is that I'm wearing more flattering clothes and the other is that the perspective is higher up. I've kind of always know this and try to tilt my head forward in photos, but when I've been taking pictures for this blog I've been trying to get all of me in and that means standing back and holding the camera lower down.

In a way, despite the previous umpa-lumpa photos, this is good. I'm only 5'5" so most people are either a similar height or taller than me (with a few exceptions of course). It's nice to know they have a more flattering view of me most of the time.

Meal plan w/c 2-7-14, -1.5lbs

Weigh in - 16st 12lbs

Lost 1.5lbs. I'll admit that I'm a little disappointed. I feel that I've been good syn-wise this week and I had hoped for a little bit more off. As I mentioned yesterday, I kind of know why - I haven't been having meals or planning very well. I've just been eating when I felt like it and although they were, for the most part, healthy choices, they weren't strictly SW in terms of proportions. Still it's better than last week and going in the right direction.

Also, for once when I went to the meeting this morning I had cash on me and this coincided with the Sausage Man being there. I don't normally have a lot of meat and I am a bit loathed to spend the money but I do like his syn-free chilli sausages!

And, as a bit of a treat, I got some Hifi bars. Salted caramel. Very yummy!

Monday 7 July 2014

Food Diary

Breakfast - 35g Halloumi, 20 almonds, yoghurt, banana
Lunch - Potatoes, fruit salad, biscuit - 1 syns
Dinner - Large sushi selection - 6 syns, clementine, glass of wine - 4 syns
Snacks/Other -
Total syns - 11

I think I've been pretty good this week. Kept within my syns most of the time but perhaps not quite managed 1/3 fruit and veg per meal because I've been grazing - overall perhaps but I don't know... Yesterday the scales looked okay so hopefully tomorrow they will as well.

Sunday 6 July 2014

Food Diary

Breakfast - 35g Halloumi (A), 20 almonds (B), banana
Lunch - Fruit salad, Squares bar - 5.5 syns
Dinner - Turkey burger, crushed potatoes, baby peppers, Crunchie bar - 9.5 syns
Snacks/Other -
Total syns - 15

Well, enough syns for the Crunchie today. It was very nice.

Big girl problems

A well-meaning colleague said to me today, "Your shoes are really noisy."

I had to tell her that it wasn't my shoes. It was my thighs rubbing together in my jeans. Luckily, I don't really care. Put it down to the medication or the fact I'm in my thirties now. Who knows. But that sort of things would have bother me ten years ago. Now I can safely assume it bothered her more.

Even though the noise of my thighs (never thought I'd type that sentence) is annoying, I can live with it. They didn't always make this noise and I've lost weight recently. Maybe I need to use fabric softener?

Saturday 5 July 2014

Lunch - Squares bar - 5.5 syns, cherries, 2 clementines
Dinner - Chicken, rice and veg, Carlsberg - 9 syns

I bought a crunchie, synned it up - 9.5! - and decided not to eat it. My self-control is improving. I hope.

Reasons to loose weight

Today I logged onto 43things for the first time in about 7 years. Sadly, going through my list I have only achieved 3 of my goals which is slightly worrying. That said, I'm not great with goals and some of them were pretty nebulous and some cost more money than I will likely ever have.

But on the plus side it was kind of nice to be reminded of them so I will try to remember to go on that site more often.

One of the goals was "Take care of my body", which I suppose loosing weight comes under. In my last post I mentioned that the reason for loosing weight cannot (for me at least) be out of vanity since thinner for me just means looking, well, thinner and not in anyway "better" in terms of prettiness.

So, there needs to be good reasons to loose weight that don't include conforming to the beauty standards of today (since that's not going to happen anyway) and that need to be specific. Don't they say that reasons should be specific if you want them to have an impact? Right, here we go:

  1. To save money on food - eating less costs less. No brainer
  2. To save money on clothes - fat clothes are more expensive and most of the time you don't get the quality of "normal" clothes at the same price.
  3. To reduce stress on joints. This is a big deal for me due to ouchy joints from a virus I had in my early twenties
  4. To avoid having a hip replacement. See above. I really don't want one...
  5. ...but if I do have to have one in the future I want to be healthy enough to recover well.
  6. To stop tattoos deforming due to yo-yoing weight. I don't have any yet, but one of the reasons is that I'm slightly worried I'll end up like a hall of mirrors nightmare.
  7. To be more energetic. In theory. I'm dubious about this. I've always liked my bed.
  8. To live a long life since I'm a bit of a slow poke when it comes to pretty much everything. I would quite like to live to 100 just to get my to-do list finished.
  9. To be able to say I am happy with my weight and mean it.
  10. To be generally more comfortable in a world built for thinner people. Not having bistro chairs dig into your thighs, not having to breath in to do up seatbelts on an airplane, not worrying about inappropriately cuddling up to the person sitting next to you at the theatre...
  11. To not be freaked out when seeing my back view unexpectedly in a CCTV camera in a shop...
  12. ...or in a video sneakily recorded by friends or relatives.
  13. To not have to reposition my breasts at least once an hour because they randomly migrate out of my bra.
  14. To be able to wear tall boots (again, not holding out much hope since I have rugby player's legs, but who knows).
  15. To be able to choose a haircut without wondering if it's going to make my head look tiny in comparison to my body.
  16. To have the freedom to wear any style of knickers I like, rather than just shorts or briefs.
  17. To not look like some gate-crashing umpa-lumpa in photos.
  18. To generally feel less moon/blob-like in the face. Even chipmunk teeth are better than that.
  19. To rediscover my ankles. I know they are under there somewhere.
  20. To be able to jog and not feel my wobbly bottom bouncing all over the place. It might be somebody's kink, but in actual fact it's very uncomfortable and distracting.

One month in

Why, why, why? Why do I always look so gormless in photos. This was the best of about 10. Honestly, I really have no idea how all those selfie people do it. In my head, when I looked at the mirror, I definitely seemed taller, my hair seemed shorter and my pear-shape wasn't so obvious.

Luckily, I'm not loosing weight in the hope I'll suddenly become gorgeous. I've long since accepted that between my large front teeth and week chin, I will normally end up resembling a chipmunk.

(Both of these are from ages ago.)

Friday 4 July 2014

Breakfast - 2 babybels (A), 2 clementines, 20 Almonds (B)
Lunch - Chicken pieces, chocolate squares bar - 8 syns, cherries
Dinner - Subway salad - 3 syns, wine - 4 syns

I was originally going to have a chicken kebab but the wait was rediculous. Who knew Subway was open until 9pm?

Thursday 3 July 2014

Breakfast - 2 babybels (A), 20 Almonds, 2 satsumas
Lunch - Left over pasta bake, pineapple
Dinner - pasta and sauce with milk - 2.5 syns, melon, wine - 4 syns
Snacks/Other -n/a
Total syns -6.5

Being very good today. Unfortunately, that's more by accident than design since I didn't do any food shopping yesterday and went to the cinema instead.

Yoghurt

Just learned that eating frozen yoghurt is fine, but eating defrosted yoghurt is foul. Like cold scrambled eggs. What a waste.

Wednesday 2 July 2014

Food Diary

Breakfast -
Lunch -2 x babybels (A), turkey tikka chunks, 20 almonds (B), two satsumas, squares bar - 5.5 syns, rich tea finger - 1 syn
Dinner - pasta bake, 3 glasses of wine - 12 syns
Snacks/Other - eggs
Total syns - 18.5

I think I'm going to have to stop calling it a food and activity diary since there is hardly ever any activity.

Tuesday 1 July 2014

Weigh in - 16st 13.5lb

Half a pound on, which I am very happy with considering my week. I'm not going to put a meal plan up this week since it really barely followed any structure and I don't intend repeating it any time soon.
